## 1. ClickUp

Best for: Small teams that want many views and features at a low per-seat price. ClickUp suits small teams that want a wide feature set at a low price: five people on Unlimited pay $35 a month, and the free plan has no member cap. Gantt, time tracking, forms, automation and guests are all listed. The catch: SAML single sign-on is limited to Enterprise, and several views on the free plan are trials.

## 2. Teamwork.com

Best for: Small agencies and service teams that run client projects. Teamwork.com suits small client-service teams: the free plan takes 5 people, clients join projects at no extra cost, and time tracking is on every plan. Five people on Basics pay $49.95 a month. The catch: workload planning and intake forms need Accelerate, and single sign-on is listed only on Enterprise.

## 3. Wrike

Best for: Teams that want timelines, dashboards and a free starting plan. Wrike suits small teams that want Gantt charts and a shareable dashboard: five people pay $50 a month on Team. The Free plan covers boards and tables. The catch is that time tracking, user custom fields, SAML sign-in and two-step sign-in sit on Pinnacle or Apex, which are quote-only.

## 4. Asana

Best for: Teams that want planning views and reporting and can pay per user. Asana suits small teams that need planning views, forms and dashboards on the first paid plan. Five people pay about $55 a month on Starter, billed yearly. The catch is the free plan, which allows only two users, and workload and time tracking, which need the $24.99 Advanced plan. SAML single sign-on is an Enterprise feature.

## 5. Jira

Best for: Software and cross-team groups that want boards, timelines and dependencies. Jira suits teams that plan work on boards and timelines and want a free start for up to 10 people. Annual billing is by tier, so a team of 5 pays the 10-user price of $900 a year on Standard. The time-tracking help article describes manual logging and mentions no timer. The pricing page lists only iOS and Android apps.

## 6. Zoho Projects

Best for: Small teams that want Gantt charts and timesheets at a low price. Zoho Projects suits small teams on a tight budget: five people on Premium pay $20 a month, and the free plan takes 5 users. Timesheets and workload reports sit on paid plans. The catch: free users get 3 projects, cross-project workload needs Enterprise, and the vendor's pages list no Windows or macOS app.

## 7. Smartsheet

Best for: Teams that think in spreadsheets and want Gantt charts and forms. Smartsheet suits small teams that want Gantt charts, dependencies and forms at $45 a month for five people on Pro. The catch is the lack of a free plan, and Pro is open to new customers only. Workload tracking needs Business, SAML sign-in needs Enterprise, and time tracking needs a separately quoted add-on.

## 8. Trello

Best for: Small teams that want a simple board at a low price. Trello suits small teams that want boards, custom fields and automation at a low price: five people pay $25 a month on Standard. The free plan covers up to 10 collaborators. The catch is planning depth: Trello says it has no built-in task dependencies, and its pages show no workload view, time tracking or forms. In 2024 an API was abused to link emails to about 15 million profiles.

## 9. monday.com

Best for: Teams that want customisable boards and can meet the 3-seat minimum. monday.com suits teams of three or more who want flexible boards and are happy to pay per seat: five seats on Basic cost 45 euros a month, billed yearly. Planning views arrive on Standard and dependencies and time tracking on Pro. The catch is that the free plan stops at 2 seats, paid plans start at 3, and the pricing page does not show SAML single sign-on or a workload view.

## 10. Basecamp

Best for: Small teams and client work that want one flat monthly price. Basecamp suits small teams that want a predictable flat price: five people pay $25 a month on Freelancer, and a Free plan covers 5 users with one project. It has boards, a calendar and client access, but no task timeline, custom fields or request forms are described, and it does not support SSO. Freelancer is limited to 3 active projects.

## 11. ProofHub

Best for: Teams that want one flat price however many people join. ProofHub suits teams that would rather pay one flat price than count seats: Essential is $45 a month for unlimited users, so five people pay $45. Most planning and client features are listed. The catch: there is no free plan, Ultimate Control rises to $135 after three months, and its vendor pages name no SOC 2, ISO 27001, SSO or two-factor sign-in.
